Title card for a blog post about Northleo Writing Inc.'s Teachers Pay Teachers store.

I’m restarting Northleo Writing Inc.’s blog because it’s time. Why? I’m in a new era and it’s called Teachers Pay Teachers or as insiders call it, “TPT”. TPT is an ecommerce site that offers millions of digital educational resources to teachers from pre-kindergarten right up to adult education. Northleo Writing Inc.’s store offers uncluttered career and reading comprehension products to students in Grades 9-12. Uncluttered means no goofy fonts, excessive clip art or dense blocks of text nobody wants to read. Design is important and I’m very grateful for the 20+ years I spent overseeing graphic design projects for an international trade association. Those skills are very transferrable to this TPT store and I’m thrilled to have this massive head start.

Yes, it’s a lot of work to get a TPT store started. As in, a TON of work. I’m talking the kind of work that makes an ecommerce store look appealing, well-designed, organized and stocked with quality products. It’s incorrect to think that just because the product is finished, the hard part is over. Nope. Not even close. Gear up for round two because all those extras supporting the actual product itself are now going to compete for your attention (product description, cover, three thumbnails, video and preview file). However, the good news is that once your store is set up, stocked with quality products and running well, the hard start up period is over.

People often ask me how I decided to start the store. Well, ecommerce has always fascinated me, and I’m definitely a nerd for dashboard statistics like conversion rates and number of views. A small TPT advertorial on a news site caught my eye a while back, and after I reread it a few times, decided it was worth a closer look. I did a lot of research, visited many other sellers’ TPT stores and considered what different, niche product lines I could make. One day I took a big breath and opened my store. Today I’m pleased to report it has 228 products (and counting) for sale. With such an intensive background in business and management, including providing training for young adults all over the US and Canada, this made for an obvious niche. Now that the store’s foundations are built and inventory is available, it’s time to share it with more people and do a bit more marketing. I’m starting with a refreshed website and this blog … you’re invited to read along and learn more about the challenges and solutions with young adult education, primarily focused on career preparation skills like communication, emotional intelligence, financial literacy, ethics and management. This is vast territory and I hope my part of it makes for an enjoyable read. Thanks for being here!
